Blepharoplasty : perk up your eyes in 1 week!

Blepharoplasty: the eyelid surgery

that will perk up your face!

Have you ever heard of blepharoplasty? Blepharoplasty, more commonly known as ‘eyelid surgery’, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that makes your face look younger. The procedure is typically performed on the upper eyelids, and can add energy and life to your eyes in a matter of days.

Does it hurt? Absolutely not. Dr Jean-Thomas Bachelet, a surgeon specialising in cosmetic surgery and working at Ardentis clinics, is here to tell you all about this quick and painless procedure.

Dr Jean-Thomas Bachelet will be delighted to see you for a first consultation free of charge.

When is a blepharoplasty suitable?

As you age, your upper eyelids can sag, which can be annoying if you happen to suffer from the issue. Your eyes look less lively and less sparkling, and this is often disheartening. You may not feel any physical discomfort, but a quick look in the mirror is enough to get you down.

Age is not necessarily the only cause. Your eyelids may simply be misshapen. Sometimes, excess skin can weigh down the upper eyelids and lend an unsightly appearance to the eyes, or even to the face as a whole.

When should you seek medical advice?

As soon as you notice any sagging or any kind of issue with your eyelids, it may be prudent to book an appointment. Dr Jean-Thomas Bachelet will see you at one of the Ardentis clinics. He will go over the situation with you, answer your questions and explain the whole process for the treatment.

A blepharoplasty procedure takes place in three stages:

  1. Preoperative consultation. This is the perfect time to discuss the procedure and learn about the benefits of the operation, how the procedure will take place and correct postoperative care. You will be shown ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos, to show you the actual benefits the operation brings.
  2. Surgery. This surgery is carried out under local anaesthetic in a specialised environment (completely safe and under control, at an Ardentis clinic). It is painless and takes between one and two hours. Patients may return home the same day (outpatient operation).
  3. After the procedure (postoperative care). If you follow a few simple guidelines, you should recover quickly. Want to learn more about these guidelines? Read on and find out.

What are the postoperative guidelines to follow?

After the operation, you may feel slight discomfort for a few days. There is no need to worry: this is normal. This is why, to make sure you feel better as soon as possible, we recommend taking one week’s rest (although you do not have to).

We recommend that you do the following during this rest period:

  • Apply cold compresses to your eyes regularly for several minutes, especially during the first two days after the operation
  • Rince your eyes with saline solution
  • Apply a Vitamin A ointment
  • Use a pillow to keep your head raised at night
  • Avoid wearing contact lenses (your eyes will need to rest)

You do not need to remember everything today: these guidelines will be given to you again and explained after the procedure, before you leave the Ardentis clinic. In addition, a nurse will visit you at home one week after the procedure to make sure everything is going well and to remove the stitches.

Isn’t this procedure dangerous?

This is a standard surgical procedure and there is no particular danger involved. The complications that may occur are the same as with any surgical procedure: anaesthetic accidents, bruising, infections or problems with scarring. These complications are rare and not serious.

How much does it cost? You should expect to pay between CHF 2’500.- and CHF 4’000.- in total. You will be given a quote for the procedure during your first appointment with Dr Jean-Thomas Bachelet.
