Dr Rodrigo Cabezas Martin, implantology and periodontology, Ardentis Clinics Vevey and Collombey

Why do the gums recede ?

The gums can retract for different reasons, such as inadequate brushing or the presence of piercings on the tongue or lip, etc.

It can result in the surface of the tooth root being exposed. This situation is known as “loosening” or gums recession, and it can increase dental sensitivity, the risk of developing a cavity and reduce the aesthetics of the smile.

Our specialists will help you with your treatment.

In some cases, receding gums can be corrected by surgical intervention (mucogingival surgery), allowing the surface of the exposed root to be totally or partially covered with aesthetic and stable results over the long term.

Before

After

The conventional technique, which involves grafting tissue from the palate, offers the best results for root coverage.

For this procedure, the surgeon is sometimes faced with a limited amount of tissue in the palate. In this case, he must take two separate samples, which makes the aftermath of the procedure more unpleasant.

Dr. Rodrigo Martin-Cabezas improves the conventional technique to optimize the harvested tissues’ size and avoid multiple collection zones. It favors a gentle post-operative aftermaths.

The results of this technique are identical to the conventional approach.
