We seek to enhance the experience by building on this relationship and by teaching the child about what we do, so that the child remembers the experience positively for the rest of their life. Often, the first appointment is about reassuring the child, getting the child to come to the premises and meeting the medical team. We explain what is going to happen, learn about the child’s personality and evaluate how they might react to any treatment proposed – all without the dentist actually performing any procedures!
The paediatric dentist treats children and teenagers, and aims to provide a healthy and functional mouth to all children and teenagers. His field of work encompasses prevention, early detection and treatment of oral health problems. The dentist also identifies any potential cavities and structural defects in the enamel, and provides the relevant treatment, and is there to treat the child if they fall and damage their teeth. Paediatric dentists monitor the formation of teeth, the gums and oral tissues and the growth of jawbones and the mouth in order to detect and resolve any anomaly that could lead to problems when chewing, swallowing, breathing or speaking. They ensure that their patients, even from the earliest age, learn and adopt healthy hygiene and nutrition habits to promote the formation and maintenance of healthy and beautiful teeth.
